The area
Stay somewhere quiet and still be at the water within minutes.
Hollendorf is a former estate village of a handful of houses on an old arm of the Peenestrom. No shop, no inn, and since the bypass was built, no through traffic either. Everything else is a few minutes' drive away.
Water on the doorstep
Two minutes on foot, just behind the meadow, lies the natural harbour. It is freely accessible, with a jetty out into the reeds. A good place to sit, and for anyone who has brought a fishing rod.
In the evening there is usually nobody there but water, reeds and a few boats. This is the walk our guests take most often, and usually more than once.
The boat harbour on the old arm of the Peenestrom next to it belongs to the boat owners and is normally locked. You can see it from the path.
Fishing in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern requires a licence. The tourist fishing licence is issued for 28 days, plus a permit for the particular water. Both can be arranged locally.
Beaches
The nearest is at Freest, eight minutes: small and quiet, with a fishing harbour and two restaurants right beside it. Lubmin offers a wide sandy beach with a pier after 20 minutes, shallow water and deck chairs for hire.
You are on Usedom in a quarter of an hour, over the bridge at Wolgast. The open Baltic is on the island's north coast, another quarter of an hour further on.
Kröslin itself has no bathing beach. We would rather say so in advance.
Days out worth making
Peenemünde museum
35 minutes. The Historical Technical Museum in the old power station on Usedom, one of the most striking sights in the region.
Karls adventure village
35 minutes to Koserow. Farm shop, jam and a large play area. With children, half a day at least.
Boat trips from Wolgast
Trips on the Peenestrom and the Achterwasser plus harbour tours. Two traditional sailing ships also depart from there.
Wolgast animal park
Ten minutes. Manageable, easy to walk and reliably popular with children.
Loddiner Höft
A headland on the Achterwasser, about 35 minutes. Cliffs, long views and surprisingly few people.
Kröslin marina
Five minutes. Several restaurants, boat hire and a small shop where bread and rolls are baked fresh several times a day.
Wolgast
Ten minutes. Old town by the harbour, shops, bakeries, doctors and everything else you might need on holiday.
Winter here is not a fallback
In cold winters the Peenestrom freezes over. People stand on the ice where the sailing boats pass in summer, and the beach at Freest belongs to you and two other walkers.
This is the most honest recommendation we can give: if you are after quiet and not after swimming, come in the low season. The apartment is warm, the paths are empty, and it costs considerably less.
